  ENGLISH TOWN SUMMER SCHOOL

The purpose of the Summer School is to talk. This is a course of listening and speaking. Students are expected to do most of the talking and be willing to converse about a variety of subject matters. Students are trained to take the initiative in the conversation, avoid a monologue or speech where there is no rapport or conversation, and prepare their ideas in advance so that they can have a lively conversation with others.

Students will take the role of town planner and the government to build their own town. They will also work hand in hand to detail their transport system, restaurants, police & fire stations, supermarkets, and houses to make a dream town that can display their creativity and language power.

 


 

  ENGLISH plus Secondary 4-7 Exam Preparation

This course follows the examination syllabus which includes a balance of grammar, vocabulary and functional English for all situations. Our tutors use a wide range of materials to help students develop and improve their language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing and get them familiarized with the requirements of the English Certificate Examination or Advanced Supplementary Level Examination.

課程幫助即將參與中五或中七會考的同學鞏固英語文法、提高英語詞彙於寫作及口試的運用能力、對試卷要求的掌握,改進英語寫作、閱讀、會話及聆聽技巧。並使你面對考試時更能發揮自己應有的水平。透過輕鬆的講解探討考試常見的生活主題,剖析常犯文法及用詞錯誤,密集寫作及文法練習,集體思考歷屆試題並為其作分類分析,從詞彙到句法,從文法到考試技巧,全面裝備自己。

  English Grammar in Context

This course is divided into three levels

ADVANCED

ADVANCED is for those who have substantial knowledge of English, but expect a better mastery of the language. Participants will develop their awareness of different uses of prepositions, phrasal verbs and clauses, and also their mastery of advanced grammar rules that are useful to get across more complicated ideas in written and spoken form of English.

INTERMEDIATE

INTERMEDIATE is for English learners of lower intermediate to intermediate level, who expect a better mastery of grammar to express ideas. Participants will develop their awareness of different uses of non-finite verbs, namely infinitives, gerunds and participles; and also their mastery of expressions and structures to report an incident.

ELEMENTARY

ELEMENTARY is for those who have elementary knowledge of English, but expect a better mastery of the language. Participants will develop their awareness of different parts of speech, and also their mastery of basic grammar rules that are important to get across simple ideas in written and spoken form of English.

 


 

  IPA Phonetics

Do you wish to know how to read the symbols in dictionary and pronounce English words accurately? The course is for those who want to master IPA (International Phonetics Association) symbols. Topics include:

 Speech Organs

Consonants, Vowels and Diphthongs

Syllable word and Sentence Stress

Rhythm, Intonation and Enunciation

Basic Phonology

 


 

  Preparatory Course for IELTS

The course prepares those who consider furthering their studies overseas for the internationally recognized examination IELTS. It provides intensive practice to familiarize you with the format of the examinations and equips you with the necessary skills, which ensures the best reflection of your English proficiency by the examination results. The IELTS test consists of a 30-min listening task, 60-min academic reading task, 60-min academic writing task and 15-min speaking task making up a total of 2 hours 45 minutes. Contextualized classroom activities will be conducted to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

 


 

  Preparatory Course for TOEFL

 

The course prepares those who consider furthering their studies overseas for the internationally recognized examination TOEFL. The intensive practice to familiarize you with the computer-based tests (CBT). The TOEFL test is composed of not less than 140 multiple-choice questions with four possible answers per question. There are three sections in the test, namely Listening Comprehension/Practice Questions, Structure and Written Expression/Practice Questions, and Reading Comprehension /Practice Questions each measuring a critical skill in the use of English.
