This course follows the examination syllabus which includes a balance of grammar, vocabulary and functional English for all situations. Our tutors use a wide range of materials to help students develop and improve their language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing and get them familiarized with the requirements of the English Certificate Examination or Advanced Supplementary Level Examination.

 ASL Workshop for Section B Expository Writing

 The course aims to present the mainstream genres of persuasion to learners of intermediate level. They will be involved in a sequence of activities based on modeling, working together as a class and working independently and at last writing a persuasive piece. The course enables them to shift the focus of their writing from disputation to reasoned argument in persuasion. By developing a mature approach to writing, learners are equipped to meet the challenges of presenting arguments for academic purposes and/or business.

 ASL Workshop for Section E Practical Writing

Letter, Memo, Article & Report What do we mean by effective practical writing? How do you make people want to read our writing? Should practical writing be an onerous task or a creative craft? This course will enable you to write for ASL Use of English Section E. It also will show you how to develop a style that works for you and the reader. A writing exercise will help you to start on the road to better. This is a practical course for anyone who has to write letters, memos, articles and reports.

 English Speaking Workshop

 This course is, first of all, for people who want to make presentations that impress. It concentrates on giving you the confidence and the basic skills you need to make an effective presentation. It builds on your strengths and helps you to bring these to the fore. A practical approach is adopted with an emphasis on practice in a safe environment. You’ll have the opportunity to try different styles of presenting and get constructive feedback on your performance. You’ll find out how to structure your content the make it memorable and exciting.

 The second objective is to enable you to participate in lively and interesting discussions about a wide variety of topics, and to develop fluency and other communication skills for your future. In each meeting, you participate in a meeting, using prescribed roles, discuss an important matter and try to come to a decision.

 It aims to help you to plan, organise, structure and chair meetings effectively; and exert influence and build your power base before and during meetings. After this course your meetings will be more organised and less fraught. You’ll prepare for them in confidence and know that you can chair or take part to your full potential. You’ll use your time and that of other discussion participants more effectively.

  Preparatory Course for IELTS

 Besides serving as a recognized university entrance qualification,

IELTS has recently become a popular English proficiency indicator

among the government sectors and businesses.

 

The course prepares those who consider furthering their studies overseas for the internationally recognized examination IELTS. It provides intensive practice to familiarize you with the format of the examinations and equips you with the necessary skills, which ensures the best reflection of your English proficiency by the examination results. The IELTS test consists of a 30-min listening task, 60-min academic reading task, 60-min academic writing task and 15-min speaking task making up a total of 2 hours 45 minutes. Contextualized classroom activities will be conducted to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

  Preparatory Course for TOEFL

The course prepares those who consider furthering their studies overseas for the internationally recognized examination TOEFL. The intensive practice familiarizes you with the computer-based tests (CBT). The TOEFL test is composed of not less than 140 multiple-choice questions with four possible answers per question. There are three sections in the test, namely Listening Comprehension/Practice Questions, Structure and Written Expression/Practice Questions, and Reading Comprehension /Practice Questions each measuring a critical skill in the use of English.

Instructors teaching this course score not less than 250 out of 300 in TOEFL CBT
